  1. Working principles of orthotics include cushioning, redistribution of load, stabilizing joints, and improvement of fit are presented. Sports shoes and orthotics are a mechanical unit. Without assessing the shoe, it is nearly impossible to produce proper
  2. All orthotics affect the whole body. The so-called “proprioceptive” orthotics try to influence muscular tonus by stimulating sensory nerve endings.
  3. The evidence behind those concepts is still limited. However, it is essential to know that proprioceptive effects are present in all orthotics.
  4. Often it is trial and error to figure out if those effects are helpful for the athlete or not.
