James McGuire, DPM discusses the clinical value of using placental and dermal cellular and/or tissue-based products (CTPs) for skin wounds in physician offices or hospital owned outpatient wound/ulcer management provider-based departments (PBDs) for management of chronic lower extremity wounds. He also discusses the unique role of placental tissues, reticular dermal tissue, and processing techniques in chronic wound closure, the importance of conducting insurance benefit verification prior to application of CTPs, appropriate coding for the application of CTPs and review common coding errors to avoid, as well as the documentation necessary to support the application of CTPs and to educate payers.
